Program Description

Description

In recognition of African-American History Month in February, Cinco Ranch Branch Library in Katy will present a special musical performance of “African Hand-Drumming” on Saturday, February 10, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library.

Join us to listen to and learn from Gregg "Jebada" Powell, Founder and Director of Joy of Djembe Drumming.  Jebada will show and explain his drums, explain how the instruments are made and their purpose; give a history of the drum and how it fits into African culture; explain how African rhythms came to have an influence on the music of the Americas; provide a drumming demonstration of rhythms from a variety of different countries; and provide a question and answer session.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library.
