Program Description

Description

During the Civil War 56,000 men died while in captivity. This class provides an interesting look back on what it was like to be a prisoner of war in the Civil War. We will discuss aspects of the Civil War Prison system such as prisoner exchange, different types of prisons, overcrowding, guards, escapes from prison and more. We also discuss the Civil War prisoner of war records available online and ways to discover if your own ancestor was a prisoner of war.
