Program Description

Description

The Freedmen’s Bureau was created to help the ex-slaves ease into the transition from slavery to freedom. We will be looking at the records from the Richmond office in detail. These records give much insight into the struggles of the freedmen and their previous owners during this time. These records also offer valuable genealogical information, and much can be learned about the post-Civil War era.
