Program Description

Description

Celebrate Jewish Heritage Month with a painting program inspired by author and artist, Linda Woods. Patrons will have the chance to paint abstract paintings on canvas, inspired by Linda Wood’s “To Life Hamsa” paintings.

Each artwork Linda Woods creates is a story told in color, texture, and form. Inspired by the stories hidden in everyday life, Linda uses that connection to capture everything from the energy in the city to the tranquility of the coast in mixed-media. Widely acclaimed for her unique perspective on self-expression and the creative process. Linda has appeared on national television, as a guest on The View, and in numerous books, magazines, and exhibits worldwide. Linda's abstract art has been featured on Netflix's Queer Eye, ABC's Modern Family and AppleTv's The Shrink Next Door.

Meaning of the Hamsa Hand according to /mmjccm.org:

“The use of the hand motif can be found across Jewish tradition. Across the Abrahamic religious traditions, the image of an open hand has attained a profound symbolic meaning, representing protection, fertility, prosperity, and a connection to the divine. In addition to the visual symbol, this iconic motif is sometimes manifested in textual form as “Hamsa” or the number 5, believed to safeguard the owner against hazards while simultaneously attracting blessings, well-being, and auspicious circumstances to their lives.”
