The Story of Indianola

Description

Indianola was once a thriving and prosperous coastal city that even rivaled Galveston. It got its start as a landing place for German immigrants headed for western Texas. Eventually, it grew to become the county seat of Calhoun County from 1852 to 1886. Indianola managed to survive the bombardment and Union occupation during the Civil War, but was eventually destroyed by two hurricanes. The first one hit in 1875 when Indianola was at its peak with a population of more than 5,000 people.  The city was rebuilt on a smaller scale, but was later destroyed by another hurricane in 1886 from which it never recovered from. This is the story of Indianola.
