Program Description

Description

Learning to take care of personal finances can be overwhelming, so let the library provide guidance and advice to help understand how to manage money. Over the next several months, Janelle Johnson -- from the Fort Bend County Extension Office -- will cover: creating and maintaining a budget, credit management, introduction to credit cards, and different types of insurance.

Registration required; register online, in person, or by calling 832-471-5908. This program is for students in grades 9 through 12.

This program is the first of a four-part series that will take place at 5 pm, on the first Monday of the month (with the exception of January's meeting, which will be on the second Monday), from January 13 - April 7, 2025.

January 13 at 5 pm: Budgeting 101. In this class, teens will learn how to create and stick to a budget by tracking income and expenses, prioritizing needs over wants, and saving for future goals.

February 3 at 5 pm: Credit Management. Students will learn how credit cards, loans, and credit scores work. They will also hear about strategies for using credit wisely while avoiding excessive debt.

March 3 at 5 pm: Introduction to Credit Cards. This class will delve more deeply into the use of credit cards. Students will learn how they work and how to avoid debt. They will also receive tips for using credit cards smartly and responsibly.

April 7 at 5 pm: Insurance Basics. Students will get an overview of insurance types -- including health, auto, and renters’ – and why they are an important part of financial planning.
