About the Fort Bend County Libraries Obituary Database

The Fort Bend County Libraries Obituary Database is a searchable, online database designed to help residents of Fort Bend County, and those with ties to the area, to conduct genealogical research, either from the library or from home.

For many years, the Genealogy department’s staff and volunteers have been compiling a FBC Obituary and Death Notices Database. In 1997, this burial information was published as a five-volume set entitled Registry of Cemeteries in Fort Bend County, Texas. A supplement was published in 2004, and another supplement is currently being compiled. The resource is housed in the Genealogy department at George Memorial Library.

Information contained in the obituary and death notice records may include name, birth and death dates, cemetery of burial, and notes. The database contains thousands of records from the mid 1800s to current and will continue to grow as we add new obituaries and death notices daily. Alternate criteria for inclusion are listed below:

  • Selected obituaries that were published in the Houston Chronicle, and other U.S. newspapers have been added by staff and donated by volunteers;
  • Obituaries of residents and people with ties to Fort Bend County;
  • Obituaries of past long-time residents of Fort Bend County.

From this database, you can search by name, birth date or death date.

Please see the Genealogy and Local History department page to learn more about our collection.
