Multicultural Festival Features Exciting Performances

Experience some of the vibrant cultures of the world at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Multicultural Festival on Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at George Memorial Library, in Richmond.

Sponsored by the Friends of the George Memorial Library, the Multicultural Festival celebrates the rich, cultural diversity of the county and of the people who reside in it. Featuring an exciting line-up of performances, games, crafts, and more, the festival will have free activities and fun for the whole family.

In addition to the Cultural Exchange Exhibition area in the Lobby, which can be visited throughout the festival, special performances will be featured in the Jodie E. Stavinoha Amphitheater:

  • 10:30-11:30 amNorth America Youth Chinese Orchestra performance. Directed by Changlu Wu, the North America Youth Chinese Orchestra consists of talented young Chinese-American student musicians who are passionate about their culture and its music. Using the violin and flute, as well as Chinese instruments such as the pipa, guzheng, and zhong ruan, the musicians will perform a variety of traditional Chinese musical pieces.
  • 1:00-2:00 pm – “World Beats” Groups from the Garage Arts Project will delight the audience with performances representing different cultures. Garage Arts Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an immersive platform for artists and audiences to foster creativity and goodwill, increase appreciation in the arts, and strive for better cultural understanding.

From 10:00 to 1:00 pm, representatives from Unite & Inspire -- a nonprofit organization of volunteers -- will present hands-on STEM demonstrations in the fountain area of the outdoor plaza. Learn about some of the different scientific discoveries attributed to different cultures.
