Program Description

Description

Join us in commemorating Women's History Month with a viewing of The Woman King (2022).

This historical epic is inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. When European merchants begin to encroach, seeking riches at the expense of its people, a woman warrior named Nanisca (played by Viola Davis) takes a stand to uphold the freedom of her people. A member of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the kingdom with remarkable skills and fierceness, General Nanisca trains the next generation of recruits and readies them for battle against an enemy determined to destroy their way of life.

This movie is rated PG-13.

This event is free to the public and sponsored by the Friends of the Missouri City Branch Library.
